Usually places like that have a stove or an oven, depending on what they're making. Pretty sure it's an oven or a toaster for the sandwich shop. It's an appliance that works like a contained flame.

Sure, kinda. Think of it more like a box that gets really hot on the inside and heats up whatever you put in it. Or a stove that has a flat surface that gets really hot and heats up whatever's on it. You don't have to worry too much about the heat spreading and burning stuff down.
That sounds... really useful, actually. And really impressive. Are they pretty common, or is this school just really advanced?

They're really common where I'm from. Like in the way that pretty much every household has both. Kitchens like these at schools and stuff might be a little more advanced, but not by much.

Well, a play's a little different. When you're doing something live, you don't get to stop. But movies are made so that people can stop if they mess up or if they decide they want to do something else with the scene. It takes way longer to make a movie than a play, I think.
