Let's start with Friday. Are you surprised at all about what happened?

Yes and no. I don't think any place is gonna be off-limits to murder if someone wants to do it, but I didn't think someone would run at it like it was the first thing they had to do here.

That's where I'm getting stuck, too. [sometimes murder just happens.] The part where everything happened as soon as we got here but supposedly there were rules in place if this happened also doesn't sit right with me.

[speaking of sitting, he will finish grabbing food and go grab them a table.]

And while that's happening, we still have to go to class and think about clones to get imaginary points for a system that might not even totally matter.

[ She follows him to the table he picks out. Something about the way he says that makes a corner of her lips quirk a little. ]

Viola said there was something that happened when the school was founded or whatever, and that's why there are rules for it.

[ It doesn't bode well whether that's the truth or not. ]

Might as well just call it a school with fucking murder and be done with it. It'd put everyone on the same page.

[ Whether or not any more murder happens. ]

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out what that "something" is, but nobody seems to know. And if you try to say it's a murder school during Spirit Week they're probably gonna look at you like you're weird.

[which is like. yeah.] I guess the other thing that's important is figuring out how likely it is it's going to happen again.

You can get into the spirit for murder.

[ It's not wildly acceptable, but it's true. Guess who still doesn't get the point or concept of Spirit Week.

Anyway, she does get what he means. She's just a little spiteful sometimes. ]

[...terribly, probably, there's a slight laugh. it's devoid of humor but it sure is there.]

If this goes the way it might, someone probably will. [so yeah. he doesn't think never again is possible.] Our dorm thinks it's likely just the start of something bigger. Not that Hanayagi gave us many clues.

[ It's fine. She gets terrible, humorless laughs. ]

Bigger... I can't imagine what right now. [ But she isn't skeptical or disbelieving. It makes sense. It'd be better if it didn't make sense, probably. ] This is really going to give me a bad idea of what a school's really like.

[ This is such a serious conversation to have over food, but that's never stopped her from eating before, so she eats around talking to him. ]

Like Cats didn't already do that? [wry. this is a bad conversation over food, but it's not like that's stopping him either. they are completing the task and also talking shop at the same time and that's good enough for him.]

...did you ever get a chance to talk to either of them? Tomoe or Hanayagi.

Cats? Is that the thing everyone hates?

[ She did not have the great honor of watching the movie. She skipped that class. ]

I talked to Hanayagi after the trial, but that's about it. She didn't say too much to me.

[ She didn't expect much, considering her personality. ]

Yeah. Terrible. Definitely not something I'd recommend to anybody I actually like. [great punishment though.]

...even if she didn't say much, can I ask what she said at all? She said a lot of different things to everybody, so I'm kind of wondering if there's something there that'll make sense.

... When I asked her why, she said because she wanted to. Just because. Which I don't buy.

[ Even if that's what Kaoruko wanted to do, Kainé thinks there has to be something more than just because. She didn't know the other girl at all, but she's seen enough cruelty to know what just because looks like. ]

That's the answer she gave somebody else, too. But I don't think it makes sense either. We've only been here a week. Even if she was annoyed with him, that seems a little drastic as motivation.

Some people can kill just to kill, but she didn't seem like that.

[ Some people just have that kind of vibe. ]

It's make more sense if there was something more there, but I don't know if she told anyone anything like that.

Not that I know of. [chewing his food thoughtfully...] It'd have to be something really big she couldn't get on her own if that was the case, right? Something promised to her.

What would most people kill for?

To get something they can't get normally. [ Like he said. ] To protect. To save. Revenge.

[ But if Kaoruko and Hiyori didn't know each other before here, it's probably not the last one. ]

[there's a thoughtful sort of frown at that.]

Even if none of those reasons were hers, they're good ones to keep in mind if this happens again. Maybe having a motive in mind will help us figure things out next time.

If people are obvious about it, it could.

[ Really love that they're so sure it's going to happen again. ]

And if people aren't obvious? What do we do then?

[sometimes you're just from canons where bad things happen all the time.]

I don't know. We do what we can.

[ Her thinking only goes so far. She's someone who likes to punch, not think. ]

We make the choices we can.

[ And hope more of their agency isn't torn from them. ]

...as long as people can live with those choices, we'll go from there then.
