[rita's wearing her uniform with the jacket and scarf, though she doesn't remove them when she walks in. she just makes a beeline to a bookshelf and grabs a textbook. it seems she already knew which one she was going for.]
Stupid classes aside, I wouldn't say my day was all that eventful. What about you?
[they can both wear jackets they don't bother removing. he watches for a moment, noticing how she zips across the room before nodding in acknowledgement more than anything.]
About the same, which is really what's starting to bug me. After everything that happened, isn't it kind of weird how everything went back to normal? [...] Or normal for this place.
It's like the rest of the school didn't even notice. [annoying...
but he pauses then, blinking a little like he's trying to decide where the question came from.]
We're from the same place. [which is the easy answer, but he likes rita enough that he doesn't mind elaborating.] We've been friends for a long time. He was with me in that other world I told you about, too.
I guess it's a coincidence, but I think I can understand why it was us this time instead of anybody else. But it wasn't like it was just us the first time either. We had a few other friends with us, too.
[he doesn't elaborate though because she asks an important question.] It's not really common I think. We were only sent to that other world because it needed us and our partners were waiting for us. Most people from Earth don't do that.
Our partners were waiting for us for a really, really long time. When we finally got to that other world and met them, we helped give them the power they needed to grow stronger. They can't evolve on their own. They need us. So when the world's in danger, both that world and our own world, we're the only ones who can save them from everything that tries to destroy them.
[it was a fate thing, basically, but he doesn't think to say it because he's not sure if that would make sense to her.]
Yamato has his own partner, too. We all do. The first time we went there were eight of us from our world, and eight Digimon we were partnered with.
Right, exactly. Usually it's another strong Digimon, or it's something else threatening both Earth and the Digital World because they're tied together. It's all...complicated. But we do what we have to do.
[he recognizes that sort of look and the way a scientist ponders, so he leans back a little to look at her.]
If you've got questions, you can ask. I know it's probably different than what you're used to, but now I kind of want to know what you think it's like.
... I was thinking it might be like spirit conversion.
There are beings in my world that consume magical energy, and when they die, they leave behind a portion of that magic in a condensed state. Given enough time and the right environmental conditions, those remains can eventually become an elemental spirit.
But... I discovered a formula that can create spirits instantly. Essentially... to cause instantaneous evolution.
Usually when a Digimon dies...it's not like that. They're usually reborn at the Village of Beginnings. [but pondering here.] So basically it's something that speeds up the process and cuts out the part where you have to have the right conditions.
What do the spirits do? [like...are they friends? do they just vibe?]
let's say monday

[she flips through the book, then looks between it and Taichi a few times, as if trying to decide between them...]
... Say, how do you and Yamato know each other?

[she thinks a moment?] Wait, is this actually common in some worlds?

[she'll tuck the book under her arm and go sit down on a nearby chair]
I know you mentioned the world being in danger and stuff, but... what could you do about it?

[she's cupping her chin, deep in thought]
... Well, maybe there's no point in thinking about the science when I can't see it for myself...
[but this is such a hard lesson for rita to learn, she can't not try to think of the science]
