[ Woe. ]

'Tis a carbuncle, a familiar of mine.

[ Said carbuncle decides it's time to check this new person out! It slinks past Alphinaud and circles around Taichi's feet. ]

Otome, ah... had scolded me for not having a name for it previously, so you may call it Haru, if you like.

Beau had said much the same.

[ Baby indeed. The carbuncle sits obediently at Taichi's feet, but it looks up and chirps expectantly at him, its three tails swishing from behind. ]

You have the right of it; carbuncles are aetherial constructs conjured forth from the likes of gemstones. This one in particular I have created from a moonstone.

Any given gemstone influences its physical traits for the most part. 'Tis my own knowledge and skill that grants it its magical prowess.

[ Oh this carbuncle does take pets. In fact, it will press its head into Taichi's hand, not unlike a cat. ]

Unfortunately, not quite. Should I grow capable of summoning an even stronger carbuncle, I would need to create another... This is the second of mine own variety, you see—my first was conjured from obsidian.

[ Meanwhile: carby pets!! fuck yea!!! ]

[ they do!! ]

Not at all! Should I will it, I am able to summon several types of carbuncles at this point. But I am rather proud of Haru, here...

[ he chuckles, lightly. ]

That only means you do not know many arcanists! Magic is not common in which you hail then, hm?
