Yeah. What's the point of being on the Dean's List if the bear's not gonna give out special treatment?

You know, he seemed pretty clueless about a lot of things. You sure he even knows you're on the Dean's List?

My last school. "Where the kids are the animals." It's where they send all the kids they don't want to deal with anymore.

I wasn't gonna ask him in front of everybody, but now I'm thinking I might've lost my chance. [shit. but.] Supposedly he's the one who put us on that list, but you're right. Didn't he tell someone that this school's been around even longer than he has? Makes you wonder how he got to be the principal.

Maybe he did, but that doesn't mean he knows what it's supposed to be for. He could've just picked random names out of that top hat of his. [ rolls his eyes! ] Is that all that makes you wonder about it? Not that the guy's a literal bear?

I mean, technically Wilderness School is for the delinquent kids who keep getting expelled from everywhere else. So it's like a really bad last-ditch attempt at keeping us out of juvie.

That would almost make me feel better if that's what it was. [it feels less purposeful and creepy that way. but there's a short grin at that.] Would you believe me if I said that him being a bear is the thing that bothers me the least about him?

And it's demigod camp. Centaurs are supposed to be the "trainers of heroes," right? And we're supposed to be the heroes.

If you say so. I'm not really up on legends and stuff, but demigods are...like the kids of gods, right? Something like that?

That's right. Mine's a different pantheon from yours, so I wouldn't expect you to know him off-hand, but my dad is Hephaestus. He's the Greek god of fire and the forge.

[there's a somewhat blank stare because he only understands some of those words, but he nods eventually.]

Yyyyyyep. I'm a mechanic. My mom taught me everything I knew growing up, long before I ever knew about Hephaestus. I'm gonna need to find some tools to be of much use for anything while we're here, though.

As much as I don't like the idea of playing along after everything that happened today? It sounds like vouchers are going to be the only way we're going to get anything during our stay here. Could be worth asking about.

Yep, that's the plan. I was talking with someone about maybe pooling them to set up a rig to hack the place, too, but I wonder if that'll even be worth it if the place doesn't even have CCTV.

I don't know how any of that stuff works, but wouldn't you need a place to hook up into? Like some kind of port to their network or something.

Honestly, it depends on how the place is set up. Schools are usually pretty easy to get into, so with the right tools, remote access wouldn't be that hard. But we need the tools first.
