[well that was a disaster! all of it! like yes, okay, they got the right guy (one of them...) but at what cost? they cut it close as usual but...well. at least they aren't losing an innocent person this time.
speaking of innocent people, when taichi enters the cafeteria it's with the idea of just aimlessly wandering. he's not exactly interested in food (though then again he could eat, he guesses) and he's not entirely devoted to finding things. but that doesn't stop him from noticing he isn't alone, so he approaches denji with a short lift of his hand in greeting.]

Sieghart was one of the people I liked most in Spring before I switched. Bradley was in Fall but I didn't know him that well. So, I guess maybe it was like the kind of friends where you talked but you weren't really that close. [a beat.]

People who haven't killed or died before think death is some kinda real complicated and meaningful thing. Like, if someone dies it has to change things or make somethin' happen.
But it's not like that. You see it a buncha times, and you know it's not like that.

Not always, no. Sometimes people die because it's just what happens. Sometimes there's no reason for it, but other times people die for you, or people have to die to protect other people. To be honest with you, I've sort of thought...maybe that's what's happening here. And that's why our murderers aren't confessing.

Hmm, it'd be nicer if it was the first one. Some kinda noble reason like that.
Figure it'd still be the same kinda people, then. People like Rupert and that girl, who believe in big, important reasons for killin' and stuff. No one's gotta worry about me, in that case.

Guess that's what I mean: types like that will kill if they think it's for a good reason.
But problem is...how're you supposed to know what they think is a good reason? Or if you're in the way of that and gotta die so they can get what they want.

[the worst part about this conversation is that he actually gets what denji's saying. like, yeah. fair point. someone could say they want to kill for a good reason and for the greater good, but their idea of a greater good might not match up with a different greater good.
