[ it's not MY FAULT?????? but she is happier to talk about that! ]
Well! I can create light, but I can also manipulate its refractions to create illusions. What we see is all thanks to light, after all! Or I can use the light to create shields, snares, lasers, and other offensive abilities!
That's really cool. [like?? yes?? he pauses, debating if he wants to continue and then deciding maybe lux won't mind.] ...all of us have certain things we embody that help our partners evolve. Hikari's is light, so her partner uses a lot of light attacks in her Perfect form.
[ oh! she looks excited to be hearing about this! she's interested in how magic works for other people, but also in learning about her dorm mates. ]
That's interesting. So it's... Something that you - she - embody, but it doesn't manifest for yourself? [ like you're just a source for someone else? ]
Yeah, exactly. It's like the trait that fits us best, and when we act on it the power grows and gives more power to our partners. So maybe it's more like...we manifest it by being ourselves, and that power then goes to them so they can get even stronger.
[there's a pause, and then a somewhat awkward grin.]
Courage. [which really did not come through in the memory lux saw, but...he's managed to rebalance himself again, somehow. and immediately, to throw the attention off of himself:] And Yamato's is friendship.
Yeah, a little. But we've managed to make it work. Because the power's a part of us, it's easier to tap into sometimes.

The first time Greymon evolved into MetalGreymon, it was because we ran into battle against Etemon to protect everybody else. I wasn't scared of him back then. I'm still not. [stupid-ass monkey.] And when Garurumon evolved into WereGarurumon, it's because Yamato realized his friendship with our friend Jou was more important than the lies he was being told by PicoDevimon that were meant to make Yamato resentful. Stuff like that.
The first time it was like that. Now that we've been doing this for a while, we're more in-sync with our partners so it's easier for them to evolve. There's still a few conditions to it but we've got a pretty good handle on it after all this time.
But it can be kind of dangerous if we're not careful.
[ like she does understand generally what the idea of evolution is. don't worry about it. but??? this sounds like a very fast thing? and also 'the first time' SO A TEMPORARY THING?? ]
[taichi: i'm not from a world of magic also taichi: says shit like this]
If they absorb enough power, they can change their form. It means they're stronger, they have more ways to fight and they're way bigger most of the time. But when they run out of power, they'll change back. Our partners can't evolve if they're too hungry for example, or they'll change back to another form if they've taken too much damage in a fight. But usually they're with us in their Child forms.
I don't know. I - I don't actually know very much about how to learn more magic. I could never talk to anyone about it, and books about it are forbidden.

I used to burst into a glow without meaning to, as a child.

That would've been a huge surprise to anyone, I bet. How'd you learn to control it?
no subject
... Sylas taught me how.
no subject
...I see. [hm. time to change the subject.] And then you got stronger. What all can your magic do?

Those both seem... Somewhat harder to conjure than light.

How inconvenient.

I also have questions about evolution?
no subject
It's pretty confusing, huh. What do you actually want to know?
[talking about the digimon is way easier than talking about himself, it seems.]

...okay fine, maybe it's kind of like magic, but it's not like we can do any of it on our own like you can.

Some people can only borrow the magic of others.

So you've really just been figuring stuff out on your own, basically.

I had met a few other mages, recently. Ah - good ones, I mean. Not Sylas.
