You know I have no idea what any of that means, right? [but he sounds amused and like he doesn't mind either way.] But then I'm even more glad you're not one of them. Our story just got a little out of hand.
I guess that part wasn't so bad. It didn't feel that different from the things we usually do on Wednesdays anyway. But I think I like this universe just the way it is.
[he's still wearing the v-neck probably.]
Today didn't go as badly as I thought it would, surprisingly.
[ why would you tell me this.... i never thought about lux's outfit for their au. i googled vampire lady but the results were predictably just lady dimitrescu and i don't think lux is dressed like that. it's fine. ]
Mm, I was expecting far more combat. Though I'm relieved it didn't come to that, given the limitations put on my magic.
[i'm crying noooo we're just going to pretend she's a pretty vampire lady and leave it at that.]
You know I kind of was, too? Especially after the field trips and what happened this week. It almost felt anticlimatic, but I guess the climax of the story was all of us splitting up to take care of things and kill the "villains."
Me either. It almost feels like we're just as clueless as when we first started, but...whatever. It's over, we can finally go back to...wherever we want. And we get a wish anyway.
It does...it's kind of crazy to think about. [but he shakes his head.] I've kind of thought about it, but...I'm not even sure what I'd ask for now. The things I would ask to change are things that shouldn't change, and...maybe there's some things I just need to make peace with and stop trying to think of how I could have fixed them all together.
[ lux feels like all their conversations wind up about her... but... she's also deeply invested in getting her wish right, so she won't fight it. she'll take any help she can get sorting out her thoughts on this. ]
... I would like for my kingdom to accept magic.
But this brings into question how far back the wish can be put into play. If it can be implemented in the past, not doing so seems unjust to those who have suffered all this time, and it could avoid... Many things in specific that I would like to avoid.
[that's about what he thought, so she gets a smile for it.]
Well...it's our wish. I don't think there's any, like, catches or tricks to it if we're allowed anything in the world. How far back do you think you would want to go?
[ she actually sounds a little pouty about this: ]
That question is far too difficult.
Is it unjust of me to only go far back enough to save one man? Should I go all the way to the founding of our very kingdom? But that's a thousand years back and who knows what would become of the present.
I think...you should go back as far as you think is comfortable and don't worry so much about everybody in the past. Go back as far as you need to in order to help the present. Going back all the way to the founding of the kingdom sounds like it would change a lot of things, including how the kingdom is structured itself.
But I wouldn't worry about it being unjust, especially considering this shouldn't be possible at all.
It could be just like what we just did. Not really undoing anything, but just rewriting the ending. You know how mages are treated in your kingdom, and you know how you want them to be treated. I think using those two ideas together will give you a place to start.
You're trying to do something major, Lux. Don't put so much pressure on yourself. [he says, like a hypocrite.]
...we have all night. So...explain it to me. What do you want for mages specifically in the kingdom? The acceptance of magic, okay, but what does that mean for them in particular?
[ unfortunately lux is a logic-brain who has a much easier time opening up and talking about problem-solving than anything else. ]
It would just mean freedom. Not having to live in hiding, not being exiled or locked away or - tortured. No more Mageseekers, which puts my uncle out of a job, but I can't say that I care.
I wonder if the military would expand to make room for mages among the vanguard...?
I don't know. I just... I want to make sure that Sylas leads a better life.
[that's a problem when taichi's not at all logical half the time, but he's making an attempt.]
Okay. So what if the wish was something about how you wish the kingdom was designed to allow mages to live a comfortable life as a vital part of the community with the opportunity for them to grow with the kingdom itself or live their lives peacefully? Something like that. It would mean changing whatever part of history meant that wish wouldn't work.
...I hate to suggest any kind of schooling, but what about something that includes mage education that would have taught the kingdom that mages now aren't actually bad people?

It was kind of fun, though! Just like reading a thriller!

Have you thought of how to use it?

Have you?

It's hard to know what can be fixed and what should be made peace with.
I know what it is that I want. I am just still figuring out the best way to go about asking for it.

[but he immediately throws that subject away to focus on lux.]
Can I ask what it is? [he's curious, and has some thoughts on what it could be.]

Imagining the repercussions of changing things just one decade back is difficult. But even if I cannot undo our entire history...

I didn't think about including an outcome within the wish.

It might be a solution if you just phrase the wish right and let it change things the way they can be changed.
